A flute ship can be regarded as the 17th-century equivalent of a means of transport. Although the origin of the name fluyt is not entirely certain, its distinctive shape—a rounded, pear-shaped hull with a deeply concave upper section and narrow decks—can be seen as the result of a series of minor refinements introduced at the end of the 16th century.

A different construction method was used in this model than in most other models. An oak frame is mounted onto an MDF base, to which individually tailored linden cladding boards are then attached. The covering is laid from the keel upwards. After removing the MDF base, the hull remains completely hollow inside.

The model is made to a 1:72 scale and consists of laser-cut bulkheads, a complete limewood planking set, and various laser-cut fittings. The ornaments were fully designed in 3D and printed with very high precision.
The assembly instructions are based on photos, while the rigging is shown in drawings. The model includes two auxiliary boats and a set of sails for self-assembly (stitching required). The set also includes a simple oak stand.

Difficulty level: 4 on a scale of 1–4.

Dimensions of the assembled model:
length approx. 60 cm,
width approx. 24 cm,
approx. height 55 cm.
