HMS Endeavour – James Cook’s research vessel
In 1728, James Cook was born the son of a farmer. Over the following years, he gained sailing experience until, in 1755, he joined the British Royal Navy, where he quickly attained the rank of master.
In 1768, he was entrusted with command of a scientific expedition to the South Pacific. The vessel “Endeavour” was assigned to this mission. The ship set sail from the port of Plymouth bound for Cape Horn and reached its destination—Tahiti—in April 1769. After completing his scientific research, Cook continued his journey toward New Zealand.
