Vessel history
Halve Maen (Half Moon) is the vessel on which Henry Hudson sailed in 1609. he sailed for the VOC (Dutch East India Company), establishing the first contacts in the area of what is now the United States. The results of this expedition led to the founding of New Netherland and the city of New Amsterdam — present-day New York. Halve Maen was a yacht – a small, agile vessel used by 17th-century Dutch sailors for long-distance voyages and exploration.
