One of the most eagerly awaited models of recent years – HMS Surprise is an exceptionally detailed kit for building the famous 28-gun frigate, immortalized in Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey–Maturin novels. Now available for pre-order at statecznik.com.

Set description

The set was developed primarily as a faithful replica of the fictional HMS Surprise from O’Brian’s novels, with the option to build a historical version of the original ship in its 1794 configuration. The manufacturer has taken care of every detail: from the double hull planking and richly appointed captain’s cabin to the Aubrey and Maturin minifigures.

This is a model for experienced modelers—demanding precision and patience, but offering exceptional satisfaction in return. The kit is not intended for beginners; prior experience with several ship model projects is recommended.

• Laser-cut frames made of pear wood, lime wood, MDF, and acetate
• Double hull planking in linden and pearwood
• 4 ship’s boats in scale with 3D-printed hulls
• Wooden, brass, and 3D-printed resin fittings
• Several sheets of photo-etched brass, including copper plates (included as standard)
• Color A4 instruction manual — nearly 1,000 photos and drawings
• 27 A1-size posters
• Complete rigging set: blocks, deadeyes, threads

Weapon variants

Available to select when ordering:

• Fictional version (default) – 24 × 9-pounder long guns, consistent with the descriptions in O’Brian’s novels
• Historical version (optional) – 24 × 32-pounder carronades, the original armament of HMS Surprise from 1794.

An optional set of milled blocks is available for both versions.
