Muscongus Bay Lobster Smack – a 19th-century American fishing boat
This type of vessel was developed in the late 19th century for catching lobster and fishing along the coast of Muscongus Bay, located on the eastern seaboard of the USA, northeast of Portland, Maine.
These boats were characterized by their sleek hull lines and speed under sail, making them ideal for everyday fishing in more challenging coastal conditions. On board were two wet tanks that allowed live catch to be stored during voyages.
