A pelig is a two-masted coastal cargo sailing vessel whose hull resembles a trabaccolo, with rounded sides and a keel-bottomed hull.
The vessel length ranges from 11 to 27 meters, with a width of up to 6 meters and a height of up to 2.5 meters. The vessel’s carrying capacity ranges from 20 to 100 tons.
At a later stage of development, Pelig acquired a sleeker bow and a narrower stern, much like a lugger.
It differs from the trabaccolo primarily in the type of rigging. On the aft mast, a gaff sail with a gaff topsail was set, rather than a boom lug sail as on the trabaccolo.
In the final stage of development, some Pelig-type vessels featured an additional horizontally set sail at the top of the masts.
