The Štilac is a typical 19th-century coastal sailing vessel, built on the eastern Adriatic coast and widely used by local shipbuilders. It was used to transport a variety of goods between the islands and the mainland. Its design combines elements known from other Adriatic vessels – the stern and sails were borrowed from the bracera, and the bow from the loger.
Even today, stilacze can still be seen on the waters of the Adriatic—of course no longer under sail, but motor-powered—used to transport passengers or for extracting and transporting marine sand. For local residents, the construction of this boat is synonymous with quality – they simply describe it as “well made.”
