In the race to conquer the South Pole, three names shone in their own right: Ernest Shackleton, Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen.

Endurance was launched on 17 December 1912 under the name “Polaris.” Originally outfitted as a frigate, it was converted into a three-masted brig and in 1914 took part in the famous “Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition”, whose goal was to cross Antarctica under the command of Sir Ernest Shackleton.
