HMS Revenge

HMS Revenge was an English galleon built by Sir John Hawkins at the Deptford shipyards in 1577. Its design stood out for its special features:

• The length-to-width ratio was smaller than in typical galleons.
• The forecastle and sterncastle were smaller, lowering the center of gravity.
• The low freeboard provided better artillery stability.

Thanks to these innovations, Revenge had greater maneuverability and combat effectiveness.

Under the command of Sir Francis Drake, he took part in many battles.

In 1590, as part of Frobisher’s expedition against the Indian fleet, it was seized as a prize of war.

During a voyage to Spain, a terrible storm sank the Revenge, bringing its legendary story to an end. ⚓🏴‍☠️
