Viking Gokstad – wikiński okręt z IX wieku (skala 1/72)
The model depicts a Viking ship that was discovered in 1880 near the village of Gokstad in Norway. The original vessel dated back to the second half of the 9th century and was an outstanding example of Viking Age shipbuilding craftsmanship.
The vessel’s exceptional seafaring qualities were confirmed in 1893, when a replica built by Magnus Andersen crossed the Atlantic from Norway to the United States.
The ship was 24 metres long, and its keel and planking were made of oak. It was powered by 32 oars and a single rectangular sail.
