Viking Longship – Viking warship of the Skuldelev 2 type
The model depicts a Viking long warship inspired by the vessel discovered near the town of Skuldelev in Denmark, known as Skuldelev 2.
The original ship was built around 1060 in Dublin, mainly from oak wood. It was 30 meters long and 3.8 meters wide. It could accommodate 60 to 100 warriors and was powered by a large rectangular sail. In the absence of wind, the ship was propelled by 60 oars.
Longships were a symbol of the Vikings’ military strength and enabled them to carry out swift raids and travel across the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
