The set is mainly intended for beginners. This kit includes premium components and is highly prefabricated, giving the modeller the best possible chance of completing the build successfully.
The 1:64 scale kit has been meticulously developed with the support of an expert in this type of vessel and depicts the cutter as it likely looked during the heyday of Scottish herring fishing off the east coast of Scotland.
This is an exceptionally authentic model, featuring details such as a steam winch, fish hatches, companionway, steering system, and full rigging. The rigging is simple and suitable even for beginners.
The set includes:
- 9 sheets of laser-cut materials, including a deck with laser engraving
- 1 photo-etched brass sheet
- Double hull planking: first layer in basswood, second in pearwood
- Walnut dowels for masts and yards
- 2 sizes of rigging thread in black and natural colours
- 36-page full-color building manual and 7 plan sheets measuring 50 x 70 cm
- Transparent acrylic display stand for a finished model
- All other materials and components needed to build the model as shown in the photos
The set is currently shipped with a FREE sail set. There is no obligation to use them. The sail set does not affect the price of the set (available while stocks last).
It’s a starter set, but with a difference. It has been designed to be intuitive and very easy to assemble, without compromising on material quality. Heavily prefabricated, with double hull planking, using pear wood for the second layer. The set includes components made of MDF, wood, and photo-etched parts. Sails are available as an optional accessory.

Instrukcja obsługi – Zulu ‘Lady Isabella’
Story:
Zulu was an innovative hybrid design that combined the strongly raked stern characteristic of Scaffie-type boats with the almost straight bow stem borrowed from the Fifie. This combination resulted in a unique and highly successful class of fore-and-aft rigged fishing cutters that dominated the final decades of sail-powered herring fishing.
The steering bars have been replaced with a steering wheel operated via a worm gear. The sail area was large for a vessel of this size, and Zulu-type cutters could easily reach speeds of 10 knots. The Lady Isabella model is based on the pinnacle of development of this class of cutters.
Interestingly, the Zulu did not have fixed rigging on the fore and aft masts. Their stability relied solely on the halyards and a set of Burton stay tackle blocks tensioned from the windward side. This design meant that any failure could have catastrophic consequences.
